Khammam police martyrs honoured as Collector announces land relief

Hyderabad: Khammam police martyrs received tributes on Wednesday during Police Commemoration Day observances at the police headquarters parade grounds. District Collector Divakara T.S. and Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt led the ceremony to honour personnel who died in the line of duty.

Police personnel, officials and family members placed flowers at the martyrs’ memorial. They then observed two minutes of silence in memory of the deceased personnel.

Collector Divakara said police played a crucial role in maintaining law and order, protecting the public and building people’s confidence. He described the police flag as a symbol of commitment, sacrifice and honour. He also recognised the sacrifices of police families and their support for personnel serving the department.

The Collector said police personnel helped the district administration implement development and welfare programmes. At the same time, they worked to protect residents and maintain public safety. He stressed coordination between the police and district administration to improve public services.

Khammam police martyrs remembered amid changing crime patterns

Divakara highlighted the growing challenges posed by cybercrime and online fraud. He said police needed modern technology to respond to changing criminal methods. Telangana Police had been updating its operations and technology to tackle emerging threats.

Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt recalled the events of October 21, 1959, when 10 Central Reserve Police Force personnel died fighting Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Ladakh. The annual observance honours those personnel and police staff across India who died while performing their duties.

Dutt also recalled Telangana’s past struggles with Naxalite and extremist activities. He credited police efforts and sacrifices with improving the state’s law-and-order situation. The Khammam police martyrs observance recognised the service of personnel who lost their lives while protecting the public.

After the ceremony, Divakara and Dutt presented shawls to the families of police martyrs. The Collector also addressed land-site concerns raised by four police personnel. He said officials had allotted alternative plots and issued the necessary orders. He directed the personnel to take possession of their allotted sites.

Additional DCP Ramanujam, AR DCPs Kumaraswamy and Vijay Babu, AR ACPs Sushil Singh and Narsaiah, and ACPs Ramanamurthy, Mahesh, Sambaraju and Narasimha Rao attended the event. Inspectors, reserve inspectors, other police personnel and martyrs’ families also took part.
