Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday urged students to take up a leading role in realising what she termed “social Telangana,” invoking their past involvement in the statehood movement.
Speaking at an event where several student leaders formally joined Telangana Jagruti, Kavitha said students must revive their earlier spirit and commit themselves to this new phase of agitation. The joining ceremony took place at her Hyderabad residence and was organised under the banner of the Jagruti Student Union, with leaders Varshit Peddarajula, Sandeep Dasoju, Radhasree, Vaishnavi, and Shankar Goud coordinating the effort.
BJYM leader Sai Nath and others from various student outfits were inducted into Telangana Jagruti during the event.
Addressing the gathering, Kavitha objected to plans for conducting local body elections without implementing 42% reservation for Backward Classes. She warned that any attempt to bypass quota provisions would trigger a mass agitation.
She also targeted Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of misleading the public over his role in Karnataka’s caste census and questioned his exclusion from a Congress leadership photo that included Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, Siddaramaiah, and DK Shivakumar.
Kavitha claimed the Chief Minister had failed to form a full cabinet and said she had never seen a weaker administration in the state’s history, comparing it unfavourably even to the last Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Kiran Kumar Reddy. She accused Revanth of compromising Telangana’s self-respect in dealings with the Centre.
She also raised concerns over education-related issues, demanding immediate release of Rs 8,000 crore in fee reimbursement arrears. She criticised the Congress for not distributing education assurance cards and asked Telangana Jagruti’s student wing to mobilise protests on the matter.
