Kavitha slams civic neglect in Old City, says Jagruthi not doing politics

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha on Thursday criticised the lack of civic development in Hyderabad’s Old City, declaring that her organisation has no political agenda and is instead focused on addressing neglect in the Old City while holding the government accountable for basic infrastructure.

During an interaction with flood-affected residents in Hanuman Nagar, Yakutpura, Kavitha said, “We don’t need to do politics. There are no votes now. We only want development no matter which party is in power.”

She pointed out that while panchayat elections are underway in rural areas, Telangana Jagruthi is actively engaging with urban communities facing civic issues. The neglect experienced by Old City residents is a focal point for the organization.

Old City roads, drains unchanged for decades, says Kavitha

Kavitha said the condition of roads in Old City has not improved in over a decade. “Most roads were laid 12 years ago. The drainage system is over 35 years old and still hasn’t been upgraded,” she stated. She demanded equitable development across all parts of Hyderabad, not just select zones.

She alleged that although funds were sanctioned for several projects in the area, many of them remain incomplete. Referring to the ₹5,000 crore development budget for Hyderabad, Kavitha questioned the lack of transparency concerning neglect in Old City and how much was allocated for its improvement.

Calling it the “gold city and original city,” she said Hyderabad’s true heritage lies in its Old City and urged all political parties to spend time among citizens to truly understand their problems.

Kavitha added that only when people raise their voices strongly does the administration act. “That’s why Telangana Jagruthi is confronting the government directly, and we are seeing officials respond,” she said.
