Kavitha turns emotional in Council, presses for resignation acceptance

Hyderabad: MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president Kavitha turned emotional in the Legislative Council on Monday while explaining her decision to resign from the post.

Speaking in the House, Kavitha said her efforts to raise public issues over the past eight years were repeatedly blocked. She alleged that some individuals close to former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao targeted her whenever she raised questions. She also claimed that party-aligned channels and newspapers never supported her.

Kavitha said she founded Telangana Jagruthi before joining the BRS and entered public life for the Telangana movement. She alleged that pressure within the party began from the start. She said she questioned corruption in government works but received no support.

Kavitha said she raised issues related to collapsing collectorates and alleged irregularities in the Amar Deepam construction. However, she claimed that authorities ignored her concerns. She said nobody responded when she spoke about public problems.

Responding to her speech, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukhender Reddy advised her to reconsider the resignation. He said decisions taken in emotional moments may not be appropriate.

Kavitha rejected the suggestion and said she had submitted her resignation four months ago. She told the House that she no longer has any association with the BRS. She added that she does not want the MLC post given by the party. Kavitha urged the Chairman to accept her resignation immediately.
