Kavitha alleges ₹1,148 crore contracts without tenders

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruti president K. Kavitha levelled Kavitha contract allegations against the state government, claiming contracts worth ₹1,148 crore were awarded without tenders.

Speaking at her party office on Friday, Kavitha accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of allowing irregularities in civic bodies. She alleged that authorities turned GHMC into a centre of corruption.

She said officials awarded several contracts to associates without following due process. Moreover, she criticised functioning in both GHMC and HMDA, citing lack of transparency.

Kavitha said the previous BRS government awarded works worth ₹480 crore under similar conditions. However, she claimed the present administration expanded the scale to ₹1,148 crore. Therefore, she termed it a major irregularity.

She alleged that authorities issued these contracts on a nomination basis. According to her, this bypassed mandatory tender procedures for works above ₹5 lakh.

She said the process violated provisions of the Telangana State Financial Code. In addition, she claimed officials ignored recommendations made by a 2023 committee against such practices.

Kavitha also accused the government of misusing HYDRA against real estate developers. She alleged that developers faced pressure to pay ₹150 per square foot.

She claimed the government generated ₹35,000 crore through HMDA land sales. However, she said it failed to utilise funds for Hyderabad’s development.

Kavitha warned that her organisation would approach the Enforcement Directorate if the alleged practices continued. Meanwhile, she demanded immediate cancellation of the contracts and insisted on transparent tendering.

She said she supported repairs to the Kaleshwaram project. However, she cautioned that the work should not involve commissions.
