HYDERABAD: Congress leader Kancharla Chandrasekhar Reddy, who is also the uncle of actor Allu Arjun, has filed a petition in the Telangana High Court opposing the proposed road widening project around KBR Park. He seeks to prevent the demolition of his residence and halt construction activities in the environmentally sensitive area surrounding the park.
The state government has planned infrastructure upgrades to reduce traffic congestion in Hyderabad by constructing flyovers and underpasses around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) Park. However, Chandrasekhar Reddy had previously submitted a request through the ‘Prajavani’ public grievance platform to preserve his property but received no response. This prompted him to approach the High Court for legal intervention.
Impact on Other Prominent Figures
Notably, the project’s scope also includes properties belonging to senior Congress leader Jana Reddy and actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna. The expansion involves developing six major junctions around KBR Park in two phases:
• Phase 1 (₹580 crore budget): Construction of two steel bridges and three underpasses at key junctions.
• Phase 2 (₹510 crore budget): Development of four steel bridges and four additional underpasses.
Environmental Concerns and Legal Challenges
Chandrasekhar Reddy’s petition highlights the ecological significance of KBR Park, raising concerns over the environmental impact of large-scale infrastructure development in the area. His legal challenge is one of five petitions currently pending in the High Court on the same issue.
The court’s decision on these petitions could play a crucial role in determining the fate of the KBR Park road expansion project, a key initiative of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s administration aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure in Hyderabad.
