Kamuni Cheruvu restoration pushed by HYDRAA Commissioner after inspection

Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected Kamuni Cheruvu in Moosapet and directed officials to expedite restoration works while addressing residents’ concerns over mosquito menace and pollution.

The Commissioner visited the lake on Monday as part of the second phase of restoration covering 14 water bodies. During the visit, local residents urged immediate action to revive the lake.

They said Kamuni Cheruvu restoration would reduce mosquito problems and foul smell. Residents complained that they could not even open doors due to the mosquito menace.

Kamuni Cheruvu awaits technical clearance

Officials informed the Commissioner that technical approvals from HMDA were still pending. However, they assured that work would be accelerated once approvals were received.

Meanwhile, Ranganath directed officials to take interim measures. He ordered removal of water hyacinth and pumping out sewage from the lake to reduce health risks.

He stressed that Kamuni Cheruvu restoration should progress without delay once clearances arrive.

Kamuni Cheruvu restoration linked to flood management

The Commissioner also inspected the flood canal connecting Kamuni Cheruvu to Moosai Kunta. He reviewed ongoing construction and flagged technical issues.

He instructed irrigation officials to correct design flaws during execution. He also directed the executing agency to ensure smooth water flow without obstructions.

Further, he asked officials to complete canal works efficiently to prevent flooding.

Ranganath said authorities must restore the lake before the monsoon. He directed officials to ensure fresh water inflow into the lake after restoration.

He reiterated that Kamuni Cheruvu would improve living conditions and strengthen urban water management in the area.
