Hyderabad: Telangana Ministers Konda Surekha and D. Sridhar Babu have instructed district officials to ensure robust and comprehensive arrangements for the upcoming Kaleshwaram Saraswati Pushkaralu at Triveni Sangam in Bhupalpally district. The directives were issued during a review meeting held on Tuesday at the Secretariat Endowments Department office in Hyderabad.
The Kaleshwara Pushkaralu, a 12-day religious event observed when Jupiter enters the Mithuna (Gemini) zodiac sign, is set to begin on 14 May 2025 at 10:35 PM. Ritual bathing will commence from sunrise the following day. The ministers emphasised the need to complete all pending works before the commencement of the festival.
Large crowds are expected not only from Telangana but also from neighbouring states. The ministers urged authorities to focus on transport, sanitation, medical care, safety, and public communication, drawing on experience from large-scale events such as the Sammakka-Sarakka Jatara and Kalyanams at Komuravelli and Bhadrachalam.
Special attention has been requested for the welfare of children, elderly persons, and pregnant women. Officials were directed to expedite unfinished engineering works, expand bathing ghats, and set up permanent toilet facilities, shelters, and tents.
To ensure effective communication with pilgrims, the government has launched a dedicated website and mobile app for the Kaleshwaram Saraswati Pushkaralu. These platforms will provide detailed information to pilgrims and facilitate access to essential services. A toll-free number is also being planned.
Transport officials have been asked to arrange RTC buses based on demand. The free bus travel scheme, introduced by the Congress-led government, has reportedly benefited the Endowments Department, according to Minister Konda Surekha. She noted a significant rise in women visiting temples as a result.
Surekha also highlighted the unique significance of Kaleshwaram’s Triveni Sangam, stating that, besides Prayagraj in the north, it is the only place in southern India where the Saraswati river flows as an invisible underground stream. Pilgrims believe that bathing during this sacred period absolves all sins.
Adding spiritual gravitas to the event, a peethadhipathi will perform a ceremonial Pushkara snanam (ritual bath) each day. The Pushkaralu will begin with rituals led by Sri Sri Sri Madhavananda Saraswati Swamy from the Sri Gurumadhanananda Saraswati Peetham in Ranganpet, Medak, on 15 and 16 May.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, Director General of Police Anjani Kumar, Principal Secretary (Endowments) Shailaja Ramaiyer, Principal Secretary (R\&B) Vikas Raj, SERP CEO Divya Devarajan, Endowments Commissioner Venkatarao, Additional Commissioner Krishnaveni, Bhupalpally District Collector Rahul Sharma, temple EO Mahesh, and head priests from the temple.
Saraswati Pushkaralu (May 15–26) is going to be a sacred confluence of faith and tradition. We are gearing up to ensure that everything is well-organized, everyone stays safe and devotees have a truly special and peaceful experience.
