HYDERABAD: The final report of the Kaleshwaram commission of inquiry is likely to be completed within two to three weeks, with the investigation entering a critical phase. The commission, currently reviewing the vigilance department’s report, is in the process of concluding its inquiry into alleged irregularities in the construction of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
Headed by Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose, the one-man commission was constituted on 12 March last year to probe alleged corruption and procedural violations. Delays due to various factors have already prompted multiple extensions of the commission’s term, the latest of which ends this month. Sources indicate that the state government is likely to extend the deadline again to allow the commission to complete its work.
Having already examined engineers, construction companies, and technical experts, the commission has reportedly compiled a 400-page draft report. Around 90 percent of the final report is said to be complete, pending crucial input from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).
To this end, the commission has written to the NDSA requesting the final report, which is expected within the next three weeks. Once received, the Kaleshwaram commission will finalise and submit its complete findings to the Telangana state government.
There are also indications that the commission may soon summon former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, along with former ministers T. Harish Rao and Etela Rajender, for questioning based on the evidence and affidavits collected so far.
The inquiry’s progression to this decisive stage suggests that key developments in the case are imminent, with the final report set to provide comprehensive insight into one of Telangana’s most significant infrastructure projects.
