Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader T. Jeevan Reddy resigned from the party on Wednesday after over four decades of association. He simultaneously launched a direct attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The Jeevan Reddy resignation marked a major internal setback for the ruling party in Telangana.
He announced the decision after a meeting with supporters in Jagtial. He said he would formally submit his resignation to AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. Moreover, he expressed deep anguish over what he described as continuous humiliation and neglect over the past two years.
Jeevan Reddy said confronting Revanth Reddy would now be his next political battle. “I have fought leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and K. Chandrashekar Rao in the past. Taking on Revanth Reddy is nothing new,” he said. The Jeevan Reddy resignation thus came with a direct political challenge to the Chief Minister.
Jeevan Reddy resignation follows allegations of sidelining
He accused Revanth Reddy of sidelining senior leaders and suppressing internal growth within the party. He also questioned key leadership decisions, including the elevation of Pocharam Srinivas Reddy. He said he was denied due recognition despite long service and loyalty to the Congress leadership, including Rahul Gandhi.
Further, he alleged that internal politics denied him the opportunity to become PCC chief. He claimed Revanth Reddy influenced the party high command, including Sonia Gandhi, to reverse decisions. In addition, he cited the Nagarjuna Sagar by-election as an instance where he was deliberately sidelined.
The Jeevan Reddy resignation also reflected personal grievances. He said the party and government failed to support the family of his associate Gangareddy after his murder. He described this as a painful example of indifference from both leadership and administration.
“It is not power I seek, but respect,” he said. He added that despite being an MLC, he had to protest for basic rights in his own constituency. The Jeevan Reddy resignation therefore combined political dissent with personal dissatisfaction over treatment within the party.
He reiterated that he would continue his political fight along with his supporters. However, he made it clear that his focus would now be directly on challenging the Chief Minister.
The Jeevan Reddy resignation is seen as a significant political development in the Telangana Congress. It may trigger further internal unrest and expose deeper divisions within the party ranks.
