Infant death triggers violence at private hospital in Suryapet

Hyderabad: Tension broke out at a private hospital in Suryapet town after a three-month-old infant died, with the family alleging medical negligence. The child’s parents and relatives staged a protest outside the facility and vandalised hospital property.

The infant, son of Jato Jalandhar and Manisha from Gudi Thanda in Thungaturthi mandal, had reportedly developed fever four days ago. The family brought him to a private hospital in Suryapet for treatment. Doctors initially assured the parents that the child’s condition was stable, but later advised shifting him to another hospital as his health deteriorated. He died on June 29 after being transferred.

Angered by the outcome, the family and relatives gathered outside the original hospital and pelted stones, damaging glass panels. A police constable who attempted to intervene sustained a head injury and was hospitalised.

Police reinforcements were deployed to prevent further incidents. Security arrangements were overseen by DSP Prasanna Kumar and CI Rajashekhar.
