Hyderabad: A four-month-old infant was found abandoned in a forest area near Kondapur in Telangana’s Medak district, police said on Sunday. Passersby alerted authorities after hearing the child crying.
The baby was rescued and shifted to Narsapur hospital for treatment. After medical evaluation, the child was placed in a care centre.
In a separate development, a government primary school in Khela Shapur village of Jangaon district saw such a spike in enrolment this academic year that teachers put up a “No Admissions” sign on the school gate.
The Mandal Parishad Primary School, which offers education from Classes 1 to 5, had only 48 students last year. Teachers took a different approach this year. They filmed student performances during the school’s annual function and uploaded the clips to local YouTube channels.
The videos were shared across WhatsApp groups with around 500 members, drawing unexpected interest from parents.
During the summer break, teachers also conducted a door-to-door campaign to promote enrolment. As a result, the number of new admissions rose to 126, bringing total enrolment to 174 well beyond the school’s capacity. Principal Yadaiah Reddy and other staff decided to halt further admissions.
