Indiramma housing scheme to build 4.5 lakh homes, says Bhatti Vikramarka in Ramagundam

Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday announced that the government will construct 4.5 lakh houses under the Indiramma housing scheme.

Addressing a public meeting in Ramagundam, he said the initiative aims to provide dignity to homeless families by allocating at least 3,500 houses in every Assembly constituency. The Indiramma housing project carries a total estimated cost of ₹22,500 crore.

Vikramarka also revealed that the state will offer ₹1 crore accident insurance to 5.14 lakh regular government employees. The coverage has been extended to staff working in power sector institutions and Singareni Collieries. He called it a crucial step toward protecting workers’ families in case of unforeseen incidents.

Fine rice, free power, and thermal plant for Ramagundam region

Reiterating the promises made during the padayatra led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Vikramarka said the Indiramma government had swiftly implemented welfare measures. These include the fine rice scheme, now reaching 96 lakh families, and the provision of 200 units of free electricity per month for poor and middle-class households. The Finance Department is directly settling power bills. This includes those for 29 lakh agricultural pump sets.

He noted that ₹8,600 crore had been released to TSRTC to provide free bus travel for women. This is part of the government’s commitment to inclusive growth. Unlike the previous administration, Vikramarka said, the Congress-led government maintains fiscal discipline and transparency while delivering social support.

Responding to long-standing demands from local residents, Vikramarka confirmed that the Cabinet has approved a new 800 MW thermal power project for the Ramagundam region. This project will replace an inactive unit established during the Nizam era. Once operational, it is expected to generate local employment and support the region’s economic development.

Vikramarka emphasised the importance of expanding Singareni Collieries into rare earth mineral mining. The goal is to position Telangana as a global player in the sector. Singareni currently employs over 42,000 regular workers and around 40,000 contract staff. He said protecting their jobs and enhancing institutional capabilities is a shared responsibility.

He also criticised the previous TRS government for neglecting development in the region. In contrast, he said the Congress had historically brought key projects such as NTPC, the Sripada Yellampalli Project, and the Ramagundam Fertilizers Corporation. Under Revanth Reddy’s leadership, the Indiramma government is now working to build a ₹3 trillion economy by 2047. They are combining social justice with strategic economic planning.
