New Delhi: Following the Pehalgam terror attack, India has intensified its sanctions against neighbouring Pakistan. Measures already taken include the cancellation of visas, suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, restrictions on pharmaceutical exports, and a ban on Pakistani actors in Indian cinema. In a fresh move, the government has now imposed a ban on several YouTube channels based in Pakistan.
The Centre has banned a total of 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, citing national security concerns. It was found that certain Pakistani channels were disseminating provocative content, spreading religiously sensitive material, and publishing false and misleading narratives targeting India, its military, and security agencies.
Acting on recommendations from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the government ordered the ban. The list of banned channels includes platforms associated with former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, as well as leading media houses such as Dawn News, Samaa TV, ARY News, and Geo News.
Upon attempting to access these channels, users are now met with messages indicating that the content has been removed in accordance with government directives.
