HYDRAA clears Musi riverbed encroachments, residents welcome swift action
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) force has removed illegal encroachments from the Musi riverbed between Chaderghat bridge and the Osmania Hospital mortuary stretch, following multiple complaints from nearby residents.
Locals had flagged illegal sheds, unauthorised parking, and anti-social activities within the river zone. HYDRAA launched a large-scale clearance drive, dismantling temporary structures and reclaiming encroached public land.
Major Encroachments Identified and Removed
According to officials, several individuals had levelled soil into the riverbed and constructed sheds for commercial use:
-
Tikaram Singh encroached 3.10 acres
-
Poonam Chand Yadav occupied 1.30 acres
-
Jayakrishna seized 5.22 acres
These individuals allegedly rented out the sheds for commercial activities such as vehicle parking, goods storage, and nursery businesses. Locals also reported instances of illicit activity in the encroached spaces.
HYDRA teams responded immediately upon receiving complaints. Encroachments were razed, and illegal structures removed.
Residents welcomed the swift response. They thanked HYDRAA for acting without delay and expressed relief that public land had been reclaimed. Many urged the agency to continue monitoring the riverbed to prevent future encroachments.
HYDRA has not yet confirmed if legal action will be initiated against the encroachers.
