Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Traffic Police has intensified its crackdown on drunk driving with round-the-clock surprise checks across the city. Acting on instructions from C.V. Anand, Director General and Commissioner of Police, the department is targeting not only night-time offenders but also increasing incidents of daytime drunk driving.
In a notable shift, authorities have launched daytime enforcement operations at key accident-prone locations, responding to recent data indicating a rise in alcohol-related crashes during daylight hours. The checks, which are being conducted across hotspots, aim to disrupt this trend without causing traffic congestion.
Motorists caught driving under the influence will face prosecution under applicable sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. Penalties include fines, potential imprisonment, and suspension or cancellation of driving licenses.
The traffic department clarified that all violators will be presented before the court and that enforcement efforts will continue both day and night. Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated its warning that drunk driving remains a major threat to road safety, endangering both the driver and others on the road.
The department appealed to all commuters to refrain from driving under the influence and cooperate with enforcement efforts aimed at safeguarding public safety.
