Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand, IPS, on Friday said extensive security arrangements have been made across the city for Muharram, with 3,000 police personnel deployed to ensure peaceful observance of the mourning processions.
On the 8th day of Muharram, CV Anand visited the historic Bibi Ka Alam in Dar-ul-Shifa, Dabirpura, where he offered floral tributes and ‘dattis’ as part of the commemoration. He also personally inspected the security setup and briefed media on the citywide arrangements.
He stated that multiple coordination meetings were held before Muharram began, involving ministers, Shia religious leaders, police, and civic officials. “All precautionary measures were based on the collective suggestions from those meetings,” he said. Smaller processions have been taking place daily, and full security coverage has been provided throughout.
On the law and order front, CV Anand acknowledged the risk of incidents such as snatchings, pickpocketing, and eve-teasing during large gatherings. He said Crime Police and She Teams have been deployed extensively and have already taken suspects into custody to prevent such activities.
With large crowds expected on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, police have scaled up deployment. “Around 3,000 officers will be on duty. Traffic is being managed under the supervision of DCPs, and additional forces have been drawn in,” he said.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, along with DCP South Zone Sneha Mehra IPS and DCP Traffic Venkateswarlu IPS, conducted route inspections for the 10th Muharram procession and directed field officers to maintain calm and vigilance throughout the observances.
Appealing to citizens, Police Commissioner Anand said the Hyderabad Police has taken all advance steps for traffic, safety, and law enforcement, and called for public cooperation to maintain peace during Muharram.
