Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail has launched smart locker services at seven busy stations to help passengers travel hands-free. The initiative, introduced in collaboration with tech firm Takket, aims to eliminate baggage hassles during metro commutes.
The new lockers are available at Uppal, Miyapur, Ameerpet, Panjagutta, LB Nagar, Parade Grounds, and Hitec City stations. Passengers can now leave items like helmets, backpacks, and shopping bags at the station. This allows them to move around the city without carrying extra weight.
The locker process is simple and quick. Commuters need to scan the QR code on the locker panel, pick a locker size based on their baggage, choose the duration of use, and pay digitally. According to officials, the process takes less than 30 seconds.
Metro MD says smart lockers to ease commuter load
L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad MD and CEO KVB Reddy said the lockers were introduced to enhance daily travel comfort. “Our focus is to improve commuter convenience. With these lockers, passengers can manage their belongings more efficiently,” he said.
Takket added that the lockers come with built-in security and digital access. The service began at Uppal station and later expanded to six more locations due to high demand. Metro officials stated that the rollout could extend to more stations if the pilot succeeds.
For now, the lockers offer a secure, tech-driven option for storing baggage. This solution caters especially to passengers navigating the city with multiple items.
