Trader held in Hyderabad for illegal mango ripening, stock seized

Hyderabad: Goshamahal Police arrested a trader in a mango ripening case after a raid in Chudi Bazar exposed illegal use of ethylene.

Police identified the accused as Kunal Nokatwale (32). Subsequently, teams raided near Balkishan Mandir on April 3 and found him using chemicals.

During the operation, officers seized four packets of “Diamond Ripe – Ethylene Ripener”. They also seized 25 loose sachets and about 200 kg of mangoes.

Moreover, investigators said he used the chemical to speed up mango ripening and sell the fruit early.

Officials said rules allow only five sachets of ethylene for every 20 kg of mangoes. However, the trader used six sachets per tray, thereby crossing the limit.

Meanwhile, SHO B Sravan Kumar said the accused used excess chemicals for illegal profit. In addition, he said teams would continue strict checks.

The case surfaced as mango arrivals increased across city markets. At the same time, officials warned about chemical use to enhance appearance.
