Hyderabad air quality drops as AQI reaches unhealthy level

Hyderabad: Air quality in Hyderabad deteriorated again on Friday as pollution levels rose in several parts of the city.

According to monitoring data, the air quality index (AQI) reached 251 in Rameshwaram Banda under Patancheru limits. Authorities classify this level as “unhealthy”.

The latest readings indicate that air quality has moved beyond the safe two-digit range usually expected in urban areas.

Medical experts warned that rising pollution could pose risks to public health. Residents with respiratory conditions may face increased discomfort under such conditions.

Air quality concerns rise in Hyderabad suburbs

Officials attribute the decline in air quality to multiple factors across the city.

Continuous construction activity has increased dust levels in several localities. At the same time, growing vehicular traffic has added to pollution in busy areas.

Burning of waste in city outskirts has also contributed to the rise in harmful pollutants.

As a result, levels of nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter such as PM2.5 have increased in the atmosphere.

Data from the Telangana State Pollution Control Board shows that pollution levels tend to rise during early morning and late-night hours.

Doctors advised vulnerable groups to take precautions during this period. Olderly people, children and those with breathing problems should avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.

Health experts also recommended wearing masks while stepping outside. In addition, they advised residents to limit unnecessary outdoor activities until conditions improve.
