HyCan 2025 begins in Hyderabad with 500 dogs, public campaigns

Hyderabad: HyCan 2025, Hyderabad’s largest pet showcase, began on Saturday at Om Convention in Narsingi. The two-day event features more than 500 dogs and 100 cats in competitions, exhibits, and awareness campaigns.

Former minister and BRS leader K.T. Rama Rao inaugurated the show with his Shih Tzu, Cherry. Speaking to the media, he said caring for pets had been his lifelong passion and a key source of stress relief. Despite a busy schedule, he spent over an hour at the venue, interacting with pet owners and visiting stalls.

HyCan promotes safety, responsibility, and inclusion

Organised by the Hyderabad Canine Club, the event includes all-breed dog shows, cat championships, and an aquatic zone with over 80 fish species. It also hosts grooming contests, seminars, and international judging panels.

This year, HyCan launched two major public-interest initiatives. First, in collaboration with the Telangana government and GHMC, the event introduced ‘Safe With Dogs’. The campaign aims to reduce fear of dogs, promote responsible pet ownership, and encourage pet-friendly spaces across Hyderabad.

Participating cafés and shops will receive GHMC-endorsed training, certification, and display stickers to show compliance. The initiative, scheduled four times daily, is expected to be formally launched by Hyderabad Collector Harichandana.

Canine bravery honoured with national awards

Another key feature was the debut of the National Canine Bravery Awards. Jointly presented by the RRU Commando K9 Academy and the Hyderabad Canine Club, the awards honour K9 units from police forces for service in national security and public safety.

According to club committee member Rohit, KTR has long supported the pet community. He also helped establish India’s first official dog park in Hyderabad.

With its mix of education, entertainment, and civic engagement, HyCan 2025 offers a weekend packed with learning and family fun.
