House burglary suspect held in Tarnaka; silver, gold worth ₹2 lakh recovered

Hyderabad: Osmania University Police arrested a man in Tarnaka on Wednesday in connection with a house burglary and recovered stolen silver and gold ornaments valued at ₹2 lakh.

The accused, identified as Sriram Narasimha Chary alias Nayami, 39, a driver and carpenter from Chintal, was held in Crime No. 270/2025 under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police said he had a record of 24 previous offences across Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Rachakonda commissionerates.

According to officials, Chary dropped out of school after Class 7 and took up odd jobs before developing a drinking habit. Unable to support his lifestyle, he allegedly began targeting locked homes.

The latest complaint came from a resident of JSN Colony in Habsiguda, who returned from an overnight trip on 11 June to find the house broken into. Missing items included two pairs of gold earrings, a Sai Baba locket weighing around 1.5 thulas, and approximately 500 grams of silver.

Chary was picked up around 10.30 pm on 19 June by a team led by Detective Inspector S. Ravi Kumar, Sub-Inspectors Y. Kashaiah and K. Sunny, and other crime staff. During interrogation, he confessed to the Habsiguda theft and admitted to two more burglaries reported at Warasiguda and Uppal police stations.

Recovered property includes silver utensils and ornaments from Warasiguda (Crime No. 36/2025) and gold mangalsutras, earrings, and silver anklets from Uppal (Crime No. 669/2025).

Police said Chary typically gained entry by breaking door locks and window grills.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of East Zone DCP B. Balaswamy, Additional DCP J. Narsaiah, and ACP G. Jagan. Osmania University Inspector M. Appala Naidu and his team have been commended for the arrest.
