Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday launched a high-tech excavator to strengthen lake restoration efforts under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA). The HMDA lake excavator was commissioned near Sanjeevaiah Park on PV Marg.
The HMDA lake excavator will support desilting, dredging, weed removal, and embankment strengthening across several water bodies in the city. Officials said the equipment would be deployed in key stretches, including Kukatpally Nala, to improve restoration of old lakes.
Authorities stated that the HMDA lake excavator would enhance efficiency in maintaining urban water bodies. It will also help address long-pending restoration needs in multiple locations.
HMDA lake excavator to support festival management
Officials said the HMDA lake excavator would play a key role during major festivals. These include Bathukamma, Chhath Puja, Ganesh and Durga idol immersions.
They noted that the machine would improve operational efficiency during immersion activities. It will assist in clearing debris and managing water bodies more effectively.
Moreover, the HMDA lake excavator is expected to strengthen overall lake management systems. Officials added that it would help maintain ecological balance while supporting civic operations.
