Hyderabad, January 11: The Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway witnessed heavy traffic congestion on Saturday as people travelled to their hometowns for the Sankranti festival. The Choutuppal Pantangi toll plaza was particularly crowded, with vehicles lined up for several kilometres.
Toll plaza staff managed the flow of vehicles using ten booths for Andhra Pradesh-bound traffic and six for vehicles heading towards Hyderabad. However, construction work on the underpass at Choutuppal junction exacerbated the situation, leading to prolonged delays.
To alleviate the traffic burden, police directed travellers to alternative routes. Those heading to Guntur and Nellore were advised to take the Hyderabad-Nagarjuna Sagar highway. Motorists could exit the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Bongulur Gate for smoother travel.
Similarly, travellers heading to Khammam and Vijayawada were guided via Bhongir and Ramannapet to reach Chityala. For access to Bhongir, vehicles were advised to use the ORR and exit at Ghatkesar.
Police also suggested alternative routes for those traveling towards Visakhapatnam. However, traffic remained challenging beyond Narketpally, with drivers advised to plan accordingly to avoid delays.
