Hyderabad: Former Minister and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao has strongly criticised the state government over the shocking food poisoning incident at Erragadda Mental Hospital, which left 70 people ill and claimed one life.
Terming the incident “very sad,” Harish Rao expressed concern over the alarming frequency of such cases in government hospitals and Gurukuls. “It’s deeply troubling that even in institutions where people seek treatment and students pursue education, such basic lapses are occurring,” he said.
He accused the Congress-led government of negligence and slammed the authorities for failing to provide safe food to patients under treatment. “Is the government so incompetent that it can’t ensure safe food for patients seeking mental health care? Where is Chief Minister Revanth Reddy? What is the health department doing? Who is responsible for this tragic death?” he questioned, his voice tinged with anger.
Rao blamed the state administration’s callousness for the death and criticised its response to those still battling illness. “This is a clear case of negligence by the government, and it’s inhumane to show such indifference even after knowing that patients have fallen sick,” he added.
He demanded that the government immediately provide quality medical treatment to all those affected, including the two patients currently in critical condition at Osmania Hospital.
