Harish Rao alleges illegal quarrying by minister-linked firm near ORR

Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister T Harish Rao alleged illegal quarrying by a minister-linked firm near the Outer Ring Road in Rajendranagar mandal and sought immediate action.

He accused Raghava Constructions, which he linked to Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, of running quarries in the Manasa Hills area without statutory permissions. He claimed the firm blasted hills and moved rock and concrete with heavy machinery day and night.

The BRS leader questioned the government’s silence over what he called blatant violations. He alleged that revenue, mining, Pollution Control Board and HMDA officials ignored the activity for months.

Harish Rao said the firm lacked Consent for Establishment and Consent for Operation from the Telangana Pollution Control Board. He also claimed it had no environmental clearance from the Union Environment Ministry. Further, he said it did not secure a valid mining lease from the Mines and Geology Department.

In addition, he alleged that the operators had no land conversion approval or HMDA clearance. They also lacked an explosives licence, groundwater permission and revenue sanction, he said.

Moreover, he asked whether authorities were deliberately ignoring the activity. He questioned whether one rule applied to citizens and another to ministers and their families.

While agencies acted against common people, minister-linked firms operated freely, he alleged. He also accused the Chief Minister of allotting 17 acres of government land through nomination without open bidding for a quarry linked to his son-in-law’s associates.

Harish Rao demanded cancellation of the allotment and called for transparent bidding. He said this would prevent loss to the State exchequer.

He also targeted HYDRA and asked why it failed to stop quarrying on government land. Finally, he sought closure of the alleged illegal quarrying and recovery of extracted material with penalty.

He said he released photographs and details to the media. He added that he would visit the site himself if authorities failed to act.
