Hyderabad: MLA Harish Rao extended greetings on Homeguard Raising Day and praised the work of homeguards across Telangana. He said they support public safety, disaster relief, traffic control and daily law-and-order duties. Their role, he noted, helps police teams respond faster during emergencies.
He recalled that the BRS government raised homeguard salaries from ₹9,000 in 2014 to ₹27,600. The state also approved a 30 per cent risk allowance for those working in traffic duties. Women homeguards received maternity leave, which strengthened their sense of dignity at work.
Harish Rao outlines support on Homeguard Raising Day
Harish Rao said K. Chandrashekar Rao met homeguards at Pragathi Bhavan and agreed to raise wages while clearing several long-pending issues. The government set a ₹5 lakh insurance cover for accidental deaths during duty. It also doubled the event allowance from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000. Spending on salaries and allowances crossed ₹600 crore each year, which, he said, helped homeguard families live with greater security.
He criticised the Congress government for adding only ₹79 to the daily wage of ₹921 and raising it to ₹1,000. He said projecting it as a major step was misleading because the BRS government had taken far larger measures earlier.
