Gyan Bharatam Mission invites public to preserve rare manuscripts

Hyderabad: The Ministry of Culture launched the Gyan Bharatam Mission to preserve and digitise rare manuscripts across the country and invited public participation.

Officials said the initiative aims to safeguard India’s manuscript heritage through scientific conservation. It also encourages individuals and families to bring forward rare records in their possession.

The Gyan Bharatam programme allows owners to retain custody of manuscripts. Experts will visit locations and carry out conservation and digitisation free of cost.

Gyan Bharatam Mission targets nationwide manuscript preservation

Further, the mission plans to survey, document, and digitise over one crore manuscripts. These include collections held by individuals, institutions, libraries, and religious centres.

It will also cover temples, mutts, mosques, churches, gurdwaras, synagogues, and other heritage sites. Therefore, authorities aim to build a comprehensive record of India’s knowledge systems.

Officials said the mission will create a National Digital Repository. This platform will make historical knowledge accessible to researchers, students, and the global community.

Dr Zareena Parveen, Director of State Archives and Cluster Centre Coordinator, urged the public to participate. She said the initiative offers an opportunity to preserve the cultural legacy for future generations.

Authorities asked interested individuals and institutions to contact Telangana State Archives officials for further details.
