Hyderabad: The Telangana government will offer ₹5 lakh to each beneficiary to complete construction of unfinished 2BHK houses if contractors fail to do so, Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said on Monday.
Speaking after a review at the Secretariat on Indiramma and 2BHK housing schemes, he said eligible beneficiaries would take up the works under Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) mode, shifting from the contractor model.
Incomplete 2BHK units will be handed over to qualified individuals who lack house sites under the Indiramma housing survey.
The Minister criticised the previous government for neglecting its basic responsibility to provide housing. “In nearly ten years, they managed to finish just 60,000 units, most of them without water, roads, drainage or electricity,” he said.
Since the Congress came to power, 1.61 lakh houses have been completed with ₹640 crore and allotted to 98,000 beneficiaries. Another 69,000 units are at different stages and will be finished under the BLC model, he said.
Officials were directed to expedite beneficiary identification and begin construction immediately.
On Indiramma housing, he said the target is to build 4.5 lakh units with a total outlay of ₹22,500 crore this year. So far, 2.65 lakh beneficiaries have received allotment letters, and groundwork has begun for 71,000 units. Nearly 3,000 houses have reached wall and slab level.
