Government approves 300 GHMC wards after major merger

Hyderabad: The State government approved the creation of 300 GHMC wards through GOM 266 issued on Monday. The decision came soon after the merger of 27 Urban Local Bodies with the corporation, which expanded Hyderabad’s limits significantly. As a result, officials said the new ward structure would support smoother civic administration. Moreover, the move aimed to improve service delivery across the enlarged municipal region.

The GHMC Commissioner submitted a detailed study titled “Ward Reorganisation Framework for GHMC in the context of the proposed merger of 27 ULBs.” The Centre for Good Governance prepared the report. Consequently, the Commissioner requested formal notification of 300 wards within the GHMC limits. The government accepted the proposal and issued clear directions to begin the reorganisation process.

Reorganisation progresses as GHMC teams complete mapping and field checks

Following the merger, GHMC now comprises 57 circles, including 30 existing circles and 27 newly added ones. Therefore, officials began groundwork early last week. Teams from the election wing and town-planning division collected primary data, marked boundaries and completed mapping tasks. In addition, they carried out field inspections to support the new layout.

Authorities said the ward reorganisation process officially began on Monday after the government issued the ordinance. Furthermore, technical teams will refine boundaries and move towards finalising the structure. They noted that the new setup will guide long-term planning and strengthen civic governance across the expanded GHMC area.
