Hyderabad: Gollala Gudi in Palampet village of Mulugu district has been officially recognised as a monument of national importance by the Central government.
Accordingly, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), under the Union Ministry of Culture, issued a notification dated August 31, 2026. The notification, S.O.4802(E), appeared in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, sub-section (ii).
The ASI issued the notification under Section 4, sub-section (3) of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 (Act 24 of 1958).
Meanwhile, Gollala Gudi stands southwest of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Kakatiya Rudreshwara Temple, popularly known as Ramappa Temple, at Palampet in Mulugu district.

The Gollala Gudi has an east-facing mandapa and appears as a trikuta temple with three sanctums around it.
In addition, its enclosure features intricate stone carvings. The roof-edge design and rows of carved swans along the door frames add to the temple’s distinctive architectural character.
The temple also displays fine perforated stonework, adding to its ornamental detailing.
Further, two separate subsidiary shrines stand in front of the main temple. Elaborately carved sculptures of dwarapalakas adorn their entrances.
Their front intermediate spaces also feature finely carved screen-like stonework.
At the front of the main structure, a mandapa leads towards the central shrine. The temple has three sanctums positioned towards the north, south and west, with intermediate spaces connecting them.
Notably, various niches on the temple walls contain sculptures of Vishnu, Lakshmi, Ganesha and Mahishasuramardini.
The temple also stands on a raised platform decorated with animal motifs and floral patterns.
As a result of the Central government notification, Gollala Gudi has now received formal recognition as a monument of national importance.
