Hyderabad: Former minister and Sanathnagar MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Monday accused the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) of arbitrarily creating new divisions. He said the exercise was conducted under the guise of delimitation. It was without any clear policy in place.
Leading a delegation of public representatives, Yadav met GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose Karnan at the civic body’s head office. He submitted a memorandum. The group included MLCs Dasoju Sravan and Surabhi Vani Devi, MLAs Mallareddy, Mutha Gopal, Kaleru Venkatesh, Marri Rajashekhar Reddy, and several corporators. They described the entire division planning process as haphazard and poorly organised.
Yadav questions need for 300 divisions and alleges political bias
Yadav criticised officials for redrawing boundaries without consulting political parties, elected representatives, or residents. “They sat in their offices and decided on divisions based on their whims,” he said.
Commissioner Karnan responded by announcing a special meeting scheduled for Tuesday to collect suggestions and feedback from corporators.
Questioning the logic behind merging municipalities and corporations within the Outer Ring Road into GHMC, Yadav also opposed the proposal to increase divisions from 150 to 300. He argued that the civic body already struggles with staff shortages. Therefore, making the expansion impractical.
He further objected to the promise of ₹2 crore per division and the assignment of responsibilities to in-charge ministers. According to him, such announcements were made in haste, without any supporting framework.
Yadav also alleged bias in the removal of flex banners across the city. He claimed only his party’s banners were being taken down, while others were left untouched. Demanding uniform action against all unauthorised flexes, he said the issue was brought to the Commissioner’s attention. It would be firmly raised during Tuesday’s council meeting.
