GHMC demolishes minority school building in Hafiz Baba Nagar

Hyderabad: Tensions flared in Hafiz Baba Nagar under Chandrayangutta on Sunday after GHMC authorities demolished the building housing Arna Grammar School, a minority-run educational institution, reportedly during school hours and allegedly in violation of a court order.

The school management strongly condemned the action, claiming that GHMC officials proceeded with the demolition without serving any notice or considering an existing court directive. They alleged that bulldozers arrived while classes and exams were underway, with both students and teachers still inside the premises.

School staff say officials ignored plea to wait until classes ended

According to teachers, they requested officials to delay the demolition until school hours concluded. However, authorities reportedly did not heed the appeal and continued with the operation. “They destroyed the building without any prior warning or regard for the court’s stay,” one staff member said.

The management questioned the legality of carrying out the action on a court holiday and criticised the destruction of school furniture and property in the process. “How is it justified to demolish a functioning school without any notice?” they asked.

The incident has sparked outrage in the local community, especially over concerns that the school, which serves Muslim minority students, was targeted unfairly and without due legal process.
