Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Friday inaugurated a newly built bridge over the Hussain Sagar surplus nala near Ashok Nagar. This is the first bridge commissioned by the civic body in 2026.
Ashok Nagar bridge Hussain Sagar link to ease central Hyderabad traffic
The bridge, constructed at a cost of ₹6 crore, connects City Central Library in Ashok Nagar with AV College at Gaganmahal. GHMC officials said it would significantly ease traffic for daily commuters, students, and local residents. It offers a direct, safer, and shorter route across the central part of the city.
Designed as a two-lane structure, the bridge is 48 metres long and 12 metres wide. There is a 7.5-metre-wide carriageway and footpaths on both sides for pedestrian safety.
According to officials, the route is entirely signal-free. Commuters can now reach key destinations such as Liberty Junction and the GHMC head office in about 10 minutes. This bypasses congestion on nearby arterial roads.
The bridge is also expected to enhance connectivity to prominent public institutions and educational centres in the area. It will improve overall traffic circulation in the central zones of Hyderabad.
