Hyderabad: Telangana Police seized a consignment of ganja hidden behind framed god photos at a house in Dhoolpet, exposing a smuggler’s effort to camouflage drugs with religious displays.
Acting on specific intelligence, excise officials raided the residence of Rohan Singh, who had allegedly transported the ganja from Odisha and stored it for local distribution. Officers initially found nothing during a routine check.
However, Singh’s insistence on performing a puja in front of multiple framed deity images while the search was underway raised suspicions. When he refused to stop the ritual, officers grew wary and inspected the frames closely.
They discovered several packets of ganja concealed between the pictures and the wall, hidden behind the glass. Police said the accused tried to use the religious decor as a decoy to mislead them.
Singh was taken into custody for questioning, and authorities believe he may be part of a broader network sourcing ganja from Odisha into Hyderabad. Further investigation is under way to identify other players in the supply chain.
