Ganesh elected Kothagudem mayor

Hyderabad: Ganesh elected Kothagudem mayor after the CPI and Congress reached an agreement to share the Mayor and Deputy Mayor posts for two-and-a-half years each.

Communist leader Ganesh of the CPI assumed office as Mayor of Kothagudem Municipal Corporation on Monday. Meanwhile, Lalitha Kumari of the Congress party was elected as the Deputy Mayor.

The contest for the Mayor’s post had generated intense political activity until Sunday. However, after prolonged discussions between the Congress and CPI, both parties decided to rotate the posts equally for two-and-a-half years each.

According to the agreement, Ganesh elected Kothagudem mayor for the first term.

In the Kothagudem Corporation elections, the Congress alliance secured 23 divisions, including 22 won by Congress and one by CPM. The CPI won 22 divisions independently.

Meanwhile, the BRS secured eight divisions, the BJP won one division and independent candidates won six divisions.

The post-sharing arrangement followed these results, enabling CPI to assume the Mayor’s position first under the understanding reached with Congress.

On the other hand, the Congress party secured victory in the Ramagundam Municipal Corporation.

Mahankali Swamy of the Congress party was elected as the Mayor of Ramagundam Municipal Corporation.

With this arrangement, Ganesh elected mayor marked a key development in the post-poll political alignments within the corporation.
