Fraudsters pose as cops, flee with ₹50 lakh from trust organiser in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In a bizarre fraud case that surfaced late, criminals posing as police allegedly made away with ₹50 lakh from a trust organiser in Hyderabad after luring him with promises of hefty CSR funding.

Police said Vijay, 36, of Mancherial, who runs the Seva Rath spiritual trust in Moosarambagh, fell prey to the con. Two suspects, identifying themselves as Ravinder and Ashok, befriended Vijay over two months, assuring him they could arrange ₹1 crore in CSR funds for his trust.

They convinced him that a payment of ₹50 lakh in advance was required to unlock the funding. On July 5, Vijay brought the cash to his brother’s house in Moosarambagh and called the men around 10 p.m. Ravinder and Ashok arrived with three more unidentified associates, posed as police officers, and threatened Vijay before fleeing with the ₹50 lakh.

Vijay lodged a complaint with the Malakpet police, who registered a case and launched an investigation.
