Former Minister Laxma Reddy slams Jadcherla mortuary incident

Hyderabad: Former Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy condemned the Jadcherla mortuary incident in which a dog reportedly fed on a body kept in the government hospital mortuary.

He said the episode shocked residents and exposed serious lapses in hospital administration. According to him, the government failed to provide even basic security for bodies placed in its custody.

Moreover, Laxma Reddy pointed out that the district was under the charge of the Health Minister. Despite that, such a grave incident occurred, he said.

Describing it as an administrative failure, the former minister stated that government hospitals must preserve bodies with dignity. They must also ensure respectful handover to families, he added.

Meanwhile, he alleged that the Congress government neglected public hospital management. He claimed the administration failed to create basic infrastructure and maintain essential facilities.

Furthermore, he said the incident reflected a lack of supervision at multiple levels. Even in the Chief Minister’s own district, authorities could not prevent such a lapse, he added.

Laxma Reddy, therefore, demanded strict action against those responsible. In addition, he sought immediate improvement of mortuary facilities to prevent recurrence.

He urged the government to ensure that no other body faced such indignity in future. Finally, he insisted that officials fix accountability and restore public confidence in government hospitals.
