Hyderabad: Election flying squads seized more than Rs 10 lakh in unaccounted cash during separate checks in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency on Wednesday. The operations were part of intensified monitoring ahead of the November 11 by-election.
The FST-3A team stopped a car at Ameerpet X Road and found Rs 1.5 lakh. The occupants failed to show valid documents or explain the source. Another FST-10A unit intercepted a vehicle at Venkatagiri Colony and seized Rs 2.3 lakh. A third team, FST-6B, recovered Rs 6.5 lakh during a routine check at Madhuranagar.
Cash seizures prompt stricter election monitoring
Police and revenue officials verified the cash and began further inquiry. “We are checking whether the seized money was meant for voter inducement,” a senior officer said.
Election officials have increased surveillance in all major junctions and entry routes. More than a dozen Flying Squad Teams and Static Surveillance Teams are on duty across Hyderabad. They use GPS-enabled vehicles and video recording to track the movement of unaccounted money and other illegal inducements.
Election Commission steps up preventive measures
The Election Commission directed all district collectors to tighten inspections and prevent cash, liquor, or gift distribution. Special teams are also active in Khairatabad and Sanathnagar constituencies.
“We aim to ensure a free and fair election without illegal money flow,” an official said. The Commission urged citizens to report suspicious cash transfers through the CVIGIL app or helpline.
The recent seizures highlight the growing vigilance against unaccounted cash as Hyderabad prepares for the Jubilee Hills by-election.
