Hyderabad: Heavy inflows have been reported at the Medigadda (Lakshmi) barrage, a key component of the Kaleshwaram project, located in Ambatpalli village of Mahadevpur mandal in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district. Officials attributed the surge to rains upstream in Maharashtra, boosting flows in both the Pranahita and Godavari rivers.
The barrage recorded an inflow of 31,900 cusecs on Wednesday, which rose to 71,900 cusecs by Thursday morning. In response, engineers opened all 85 gates to release the entire volume downstream.
Authorities said the floodwater level at the barrage stood at 89.40 metres above sea level. With inflows expected to increase further, officials have issued alerts to people in low-lying villages to remain vigilant.
