New Delhi: India suspended flight operations at 11 airports and closed schools across several states on Wednesday as part of heightened border security measures following air strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Flight services have been halted at airports in Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Rajkot, Dharamshala, Amritsar, Bhuj, and Jamnagar. All these locations are in proximity to the international border with Pakistan.
In Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, schools in border districts were ordered shut. The Kartarpur corridor, used by Sikh pilgrims to visit Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan, has also been closed temporarily as a security precaution.
Air India cancelled all flights to and from nine cities—Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot—until 5:29 a.m. on 10 May.
IndiGo cancelled flights to 11 cities, including Jammu, Srinagar, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Dharamshala, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot during the same period.
SpiceJet suspended services to six destinations—Leh, Srinagar, Jammu, Kangra (Himachal Pradesh), Kandla (Gujarat), and Amritsar—until 7 May.
IndiGo reported that 165 domestic flights were cancelled due to the situation. The airline normally operates around 2,200 daily flights. At Delhi airport, 20 flights by various carriers were reported cancelled.
These precautionary measures follow India’s air strikes on nine identified terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and PoK on Tuesday night.
