Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India has ruled that voters in the Jubilee Hills byelection must show their Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or an approved photo ID at polling stations.
The directive, issued on October 7, covers all voters in the constituency. Those without an EPIC can present one of 12 alternative photo IDs. These include Aadhaar, MGNREGA job card, bank or post office passbook with photo, driving licence, PAN card, or passport.
The Commission clarified that minor spelling errors in EPIC details will not block a voter, provided their identity is clear. However, voter slips that only inform polling details cannot serve as ID.
The measure aims to tighten identity checks and streamline voting.
