Electricity demand in Telangana reaches record levels

HYDERABAD: The electricity demand in Telangana has reached unprecedented levels. On Wednesday at 4:40 PM, the state recorded a peak demand of 17,162 megawatts (MW), surpassing last year’s highest demand of 13,557 MW on the same day. This surge is attributed to the onset of summer and a significant increase in agricultural electricity usage, leading to a daily rise in demand.

Last year’s highest recorded electricity demand was 15,623 MW on March 8, which was surpassed on February 5 this year. Since the beginning of March, daily electricity demand has consistently exceeded 16,000 MW, with the latest peak reaching 17,162 MW, setting a new record. On March 18, 2025, the state witnessed the highest consumption of the season at 335.19 million units.

The Southern Telangana Electricity Distribution Company has also experienced record-level demands, registering 11,017 MW on Thursday. In comparison, the highest demand recorded on the same day last year was 8,612 MW. This season, the company reported the highest consumption of 222.07 million units on March 19, 2025.
