Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the Jubilee Hills by-election in Telangana along with the Bihar Assembly bypolls. Chief Electoral Officer Gnanesh Kumar revealed the polling dates and related details on Monday.
Election Commission sets November 11 for Jubilee Hills by-election
Under the new schedule, the Election Commission will release the official notification for the Jubilee Hills by-election on October 13. On the same day, the nomination process will begin. Candidates can submit their nominations until October 21, while officials will conduct scrutiny on October 22. Voters in the constituency will cast their ballots on November 11, and the counting will follow on November 14. Therefore, the entire process will conclude within a month.
The by-election follows the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, who represented Jubilee Hills after winning in the 2023 Assembly elections. He died of a heart attack in June, and consequently, the seat became vacant. Moreover, the Election Commission decided to hold the by-election before the end of the current Assembly session to maintain full representation.
Meanwhile, BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao nominated Gopinath’s wife, Sunitha Gopinath, to contest from the party. However, within the Congress, several aspirants — Naveen Yadav, Bonthu Rammohan, C.N. Reddy, and Anjan Kumar Yadav — are competing for the ticket. Following this, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy recommended the names of Naveen Yadav, Bonthu Rammohan, and C.N. Reddy to the party leadership. Eventually, the Congress high command will finalise one among them soon. As a result, a close political contest is expected in Jubilee Hills.
