Jagtial: An elderly couple from Jagadevpeta village in Telangana’s Jagtial district staged a cooking protest outside the district collectorate on Saturday, alleging that road encroachment had blocked their access to their home.
Nukala Narsavva and her husband Mallayya said the government had allotted land to the poor people under the Indiramma housing scheme in 1981. They built their house on adjoining patta land. Later, two individuals occupied a nearby government road and began laying basements for three houses.
The couple complained to then collector Yasmin Basha in April 2024, but officials did not act. They also approached the local police, after which the tahsildar bound both parties over. Despite that, the encroachers kept basement stones on the road.

The couple said rubble and gravel dumped on the public road blocked movement and access to their house. They alleged that the encroachers were pressuring them to exchange their patta land for the occupied road land.
They urged the district collector to intervene immediately and restore their access to their home.
