Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) will hold a protest outside the Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) office in Hyderabad on July 23, demanding immediate implementation of the ₹6,000 disabled pension promised by the Congress government.
Addressing the media on Sunday, NPRD State President K. Venkat and General Secretary M. Adivaiah accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for failing to deliver on his 2023 Assembly election pledge. The party had committed to increasing the pension from December 2023 if voted to power, they said.
“It’s been 19 months since the Congress took office. The government hasn’t moved on its promise. This is a betrayal of over 42 lakh disabled persons and welfare beneficiaries in Telangana,” the leaders said.
They also raised concerns over delays in processing new applications. Since January, 24.85 lakh pension requests have been submitted, none of which have been sanctioned, they claimed.
The NPRD said the state administration has ignored months of protests and repeated appeals from the disabled community.
The group urged all disabled persons and Cheyuta scheme beneficiaries to mobilise for the July 23 protest and press for both the pension hike and immediate clearance of pending applications.
