Delhi liquor scam: High Court issues notices to Kavitha, Kejriwal

Hyderabad: The Delhi High Court issued notices to Kalvakuntla Kavitha, Arvind Kejriwal and others in the Delhi liquor scam case.

The court acted after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenged a trial court verdict that discharged the accused.

Earlier, the Rouse Avenue Court had acquitted Kavitha, Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia on February 27.

The CBI later filed a revision petition in the High Court seeking a review of that decision.

During the hearing, the High Court issued notices to all the accused. It asked them to file responses to the CBI petition.

Appearing for the CBI, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta presented arguments before the court.

He said remarks made by the trial court against the investigating officer could affect the morale of probe agencies.

The High Court stayed those adverse observations against the officer and the agency.

Meanwhile, lawyers for the accused sought a stay on the money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate.

However, the High Court declined to halt the case fully.

Instead, it asked the trial court to defer proceedings in the money laundering case.

The direction will remain until the High Court decides the CBI revision petition.

The court adjourned the matter to next Monday for further hearing.
