Hyderabad, February 4: The Telangana Assembly Secretariat has issued notices to MLAs who defected from BRS to Congress, seeking their written explanations regarding disqualification petitions. The notices were issued on Tuesday by Assembly Secretary Narasimha Charyulu, following a petition filed by the BRS.
During the 2024 parliamentary elections, ten BRS MLAs – Danam Nagender, Kadiyam Srihari, Kale Yadayya, Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy, Tella Venkata Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, M Sanjay Kumar, Prakash Goud, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, and Arekapudi Gandhi – joined the Congress. The BRS subsequently lodged a complaint with the Assembly Speaker seeking their disqualification.
After months of inaction, the BRS approached the High Court and Supreme Court, urging directives for the Speaker to act on the petitions. The Supreme Court recently questioned the Speaker’s delay and ordered the Assembly Secretariat to provide a timeline for resolving the matter.
Additionally, the Supreme Court has issued notices to seven defected MLAs following a petition filed by BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao. The court clubbed KTR’s petition with an earlier plea by MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy and scheduled the next hearing for February 10.
