Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Monday accused the previous BRS government of setting up medical colleges “only on paper,” without ensuring hospital facilities, buildings, or faculty.
In a statement posted on social media, he said issuing GOs alone does not qualify as establishing a medical college.
“A college needs buildings, a hospital matching MBBS intake strength, infrastructure, faculty, and hostels. Only then is it considered a college,” he said.
He alleged that BRS misused medical education for political optics, creating colleges with no planning, no staff, and no basic facilities.
“Without faculty, without infrastructure, without buildings wasn’t it you who pushed the future of medical students into uncertainty?” he asked.
Damodar criticised BRS leaders for now “playing victim” and causing panic among students and parents over notices from regulatory bodies.
He said the Congress government is working to correct those failures, and had already recruited over 8,000 staff in the Health Department within 18 months.
“We are completing buildings for hospitals and colleges, appointing faculty, and adding required infrastructure. Not a single seat will be lost,” he said.
He said the government will protect every medical college and take full responsibility for ensuring no disruption to MBBS admissions.
