CTP warns of strict punishment under new legal provisions
Cyberabad Police issued a fresh warning that drunk driving enforcement is a serious criminal offence. Officers stated that if a drunk driver causes a fatal accident, they will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The section deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The maximum punishment includes 10 years in prison and a fine.
During the previous week, from February 2 to 7, courts disposed of 266 drunk driving cases. Of these, 3 offenders received both jail time and fines. Nineteen were fined and assigned social service. The remaining 244 paid fines.
CTP officials urged the public to avoid drinking and driving. They confirmed that special drives would continue to ensure public safety and reduce accidents.
